Wisdomjobs.com survey reveal that only 7% Indian engineering graduates are job ready in India

According to the survey by wisdomjobs.com mentioned that only 7% engineering graduates are job ready in India and remaining candidates are not fit for software development jobs
Wisdom jobs reviews career edge experts believe that , India has over 6,214 engineering and technology institutions which are enrolling 2.8 million students. So, 1.6 million engineers are released in to the job market every year as they simply do not have adequate skills to be employed. Among them 3.8% candidates are suitable for the startup engineering requirements.

Recently Nasscom predicted that nearly 6 million people are required in cyber security by 2022. But, recruiters are facing a big challenge of skill gap which is more for entry level roles.

Further, the wisdom jobs complaints study was conducted among 1,50,000 engineering students who graduated in 2018. While, 98 percent graduating students looking for jobs either in software engineering or core engineering. Among them only 4 percent candidates have suitable skills to be employed in software or product based companies and 7 percent candidates can handle relevant core engineering tasks.

Ajay Kolla, CEO, Wisdom jobs claimed that “94% of engineering graduates were not fit for hiring. The top IT companies prefer to hire only 7 percent of engineering graduates. While, companies are providing learning opportunities for skill development and learning. Skill development and job ready are the main elements that attract recruiters.”

“Indian IT industry is looking for skilled candidates. Some companies are providing training programs to enhance their employability skills and some candidates are pursuing online training programs to make themselves skill ready for the future job prospects.” Ajay said.

According to the study only 5 per cent candidates are expertise in writing programming logic for any programming job. Among them61% engineering professionals couldn’t write code and only 2 percent could write functionally correct and efficient code.

Wisdom jobs said that employability for roles such as mechanical design engineer and civil engineer was at 6 percent and 7 percent respectively. A chemical design engineer role stood at 2 percent with lowest employability rate and electronic engineer stood at highest employability rate 8percent.
About 4 percent engineers qualify for a startup technology role. This would definitely hamper startups growth as they deliver low quality products in to the market.

As per the last year survey only 7 percent students interested to work for a startup. This year it reaches to 43 to percent. It has been observed that students from tier-I colleges are most likely to work for startups as compared to others. If we observe gender tendency, men prefer to work for startups than that of females. Among them more students are interested to work for startups as compared to previous year. While this is good news still a long way to go as a figure like 8 percent may be more relatively, but still only shows interest from a handful of candidates on the whole.
